MADAME MAO'S DOWRY
PROPAGANDA NEWS PHOTOGRAPHS
We have a vast collection of original news photographs from the Mao Period, most dating from the 1950's. We are lucky enough to have, for each image, an original print and the propaganda that was written to be published alongside the photograph. We translate this propaganda into English to make the photograph accessible to a wider audience, but the real beauty of our collection is the quality of the photographs.
Once you browse these photographs you will never again say that photography in the Mao Period was 'just political'! They reveal that there were many talented photographers around (many of whom are named on the print) and that they didn't confine themselves to politically obvious subject matter. Instead they give you a glimpse into everyday life all over China, edited of course.
If you would like information about any of these images please get in touch. There is also a link here to an ImageShack album showing a further and changing selection from our collection. An exhibition if you will!
